Redell Search, Inc. was founded in 1996.  We specialize in hunting for CLIENT-FACING consulting and/or IT professional services executives.  Generally, we hunt for the DEAL MAKER.

Otherwise, generally our clients are IT professional services organizations, management consulting firms, technology integrators, VARs, software developers, and the IT solutions marketplace.  We are usually looking for the Consulting Director, Practice Leader, executive deal maker, PMO leader, Client Partner, Account Manager, Subject Matter Expert, software sales type, solutions sales type, etc.  While Redell Search, Inc. is based in Chicago, we work on assignments across North America.

Very often when we are engaged upon search assignments by clients where the charter is to find a combination of three primary skills. While all assignments do not necessarily require these sometimes divergent skills all at once, in our view, for a professional to make it to the top of a professional organization career-wise, these skills are key.

  1. SALES – Whether a person is a Practice Leader or a Sales Executive, at some level all professional services executives are involved in selling, either to win or to maintain relationships with clients. This could include the ability to make white-board presentations or do public speaking.  Whether they are a hunter or a farmer, or even the executive leading the organization, this client-facing ability is a key skill.
  2. EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT – This is all about understanding the big picture. It could mean having the P&L responsibility an account, a PMO, a practice, etc…  This often includes people management skills, unit or division leadership expertise, thought leadership, marketing, operations, delivery, etc.
  3. SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTISE -– Depending upon the core strengths of the organization and the go-to-market strategy, this facet of the professional can vary quite a bit.  Some individuals are industry vertical experts, while others may have expertise in a specific domain, horizontals, competency, technology or a specialized service offering.

And in many cases a combination of the aforementioned types of expertise is what is called for.

Generally, our assignments have packaged compensation programs ranging from $200K to $1MM.

Philosophically, here’s where we stand on the subject of “recruiting”.

The title “HEADHUNTER” is often gratuitously adopted by some within the employment industry. Many that understand what SHOULD be the real intended meaning of the word in fact view it as a compliment. Recruiters like John Redell view this title as a “badge of honor” because it suggests that real search is done by this person, actual hunting.

Many others in the employment industry adopt the title “headhunter” when in reality they are in fact just “Head-farmers”. “Head-farmers” don’t do active research and/or cold calling to accomplish their mission. Head-farmers primarily use advertisements to attract candidates and in essence operate as advertising campaign managers.

Mr. Redell has been an executive search consultant since 1986. He started his own and first recruiting firm with a partner in Chicago in 1990. It flourished until the opening of Redell Search in 1996.
